Phil and Colin Cow - Al Badia 24.10.14Colin Gow
reckons he deserves much of the credit for his younger brother Phil’s unexpectedly inspired play at the World Corporate Golf Challenge qualifier at Al Badia. In one of his first rounds back from a long layoff following shoulder surgery, Phil’s 36 points spearheaded the Gow’s winning score of 70 points in the combined stableford pairs event.

The brothers beat Steve Kelshaw and Les Reis by two points to advance to the WCGC-UAE Grand Final on the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates next May. “He won the individual but only because of the sibling rivalry as I shot 34 and he hates losing to me,” joked Colin, HR Area Director for the Al Futtaim Group. “Phil was out here from the UK on a family holiday but we always try to squeeze in some golf. It’s the first time we have played in a pairs competition together and we won which we’re obviously delighted about. He now has a delicate conversation to have with his wife to come back out to Dubai for the Grand Final and another golf trip but I’m sure it will be fine.”

The unplanned trip back to Dubai for the WCGC-UAE Grand Final on May 21 is well worth the investment as the brothers Gow are now a step closer to earning the golfing trip of a lifetime to the 2014-15 WCGC Final at Cascais in Portugal to be played at the world top-100 Oitavos Dunes Golf Club.

The next WCGC qualifier is scheduled for the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on December 12 ahead of the Els Club qualifier on January 22.
