WCGC leads guests to savor China and explore a “New World
The World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) was initially launched in 1993 by the former captain of the 1966 FIFA World Cup-winning England team, Sir Bobby Moore, and other elite players in the business community. The event spawned from the UK’s The Times Corporate Golf Challenge and eventually expanded overseas. The success story has continued with more like-minded partners and friends in the past 31 years.
The annual WCGC World Final is a festive gathering and an honourable moment that attracts top-tier enterprises and corporate golf players worldwide. The previous editions of WCGC World Finals have been held in Jamaica, Mauritius, South Africa, Scotland, Spain, Malaysia and Portugal, among others. It will be the first time for the WCGC World Final to be hosted in China, and this is also the first time for the event to return to the most populous, the fastest growing emerging market and the most culturally vibrant area – Asia.

31st WCGC World Final, presented by Luzhoulaojiao·Guojiao 1573, will be co-organised by the World Corporate Golf Challenge global committee and the Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Haikou City. The event will take all enterprises and players from different countries on a journey to discover this “New World”. A “New WCGC World Final Chapter” is starting in the Coconut City – Haikou
The 31st edition, 2024 Luzhou Laojiao Guojiao 1573 WCGC World Final will be held in Hainan, the second largest island in China. Establishing the Hainan free-trade port is essential in China’s high-level opening-up; Hainan has always been an important node for China’s cross-border trades and the ancient Maritime Silk Road. Hainan enjoys a tropical monsoon climate with an average annual temperature of 22°C-26°C, and it is one of the must-visit island tourist destinations and a paradise for golf enthusiasts. The fertile soil, with intense sunlight and ample rain, nurtures an underground ecosystem, making it one of China’s most popular and most visited golf destinations. There are also many golf tournaments taking place on the island every year.
Research shows that ancient Hainan was originally attached to the mainland China, the island was formed after it physically broken away from South China due to a volcanic eruption and drifted southeast near China in the South China Sea million years ago.
The Haikou Mission Hills Golf Club, located south of Haikou City, is the most extensive lava field course in the volcanic landscape. The Blackstone course is marketed as the premier 18-hole layout. Voted the best championship course in Asia, the long and challenging Blackstone course will be the venue for the 31st WCGC World Final event.
The dominating site characteristic is the bed of lava rock, which was capped with material and located 25 miles away. The naturally rolling terrain saw dramatic elevation change, and great care was taken to find as many natural holes as possible to preserve the magnificent Lychee trees and avoid cutting the rock. The lava rock base has been incorporated as an integral element of the design by weaving irregular lines of turf and rock, eliminating the typical hard-line edge of most courses. Adding to the look are wild, irregular bunker edges and transitional sand edges that effortlessly work into native lava rock.
Among the unique geographical formations, minority ethnic and Central Plains migration and the influence of the Nanyang region, tropical Hainan gradually forms a distinct and diverse cultural heritage.
