The competition will take place at the Costa Adeje Golf course. It will attract more than a hundred players and guests from 25 countries, which will contribute to the promotion of the island as a destination for the celebration of sporting events.

The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, assures that the celebration of this tournament shows “not only the capacity of Tenerife to host events of first international level but its excellent infrastructures for the practice of golf”.  In this sense, he recalls that “from Turismo de Tenerife, we have embarked on a path towards the diversification of our destination because Tenerife is much more than good weather; we are gastronomy, nature,  culture and, of course, sports”.

During her speech, the island director, who thanked the collaboration of the municipalities of Adeje and Guía de Isora, stressed that golf is closely linked to quality tourism. “With medium-high purchasing power, this traveller profile invests 34 per cent more in the destination, so we are facing an excellent opportunity to make ourselves known through golf. In addition, we are convinced that we have the ideal accommodation plant, gastronomic offer and tourist infrastructures for visitors to enjoy an unforgettable experience”.

The director of events of the  World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC), George Young, announced that the island would host in parallel the Sports Legends Cup, a tournament that will bring together international figures from different sports disciplines at the Abama Golf course in Guía de Isora.  “A total of 16 legends will participate, such as Carlos Santillana, Ryan Pickett, Ulli Stielike or Isidoro San José, so  we are very grateful and happy to be in Tenerife, a destination that has been able to innovate.”

For his part, the Councilor for Sports of Guía de Isora, Paúl Santos,  stressed that this tournament is a powerful tool to make the island and its many alternatives visible beyond the sun and beach. In this sense, he noted, “Desde Guía de Isora will be able to enjoy one of the best golf courses designed, and I am sure the weather will accompany us to make it a spectacular tournament”.

Tenerife currently has eight courses spread throughout the north and south of the island and designed by significant figures of this sport, such as Severiano Ballesteros, Jon Jacobs or Donald Steel.

Since its inception in 1993, more than one million golfers of 50 nationalities have participated in the World Corporate Golf Challenge.
